چکیده
The two-nucleon density distributions in states with isospin T = 0, spin S=1 and projection MS=0 and ±1 are studied in 2H, 3,4He, 6,7Li and 16O. The equidensity surfaces for MS=0 distributions are found to be toroidal in shape, while those of MS=±1 have dumbbell shapes at large density. The dumbbell shapes are generated by rotating tori. The toroidal shapes indicate that the tensor correlations have near maximal strength at r < 2 fm in all these nuclei. They provide new insights and simple explanations of the structure and electromagnetic form factors of the deuteron, the quasi-deuteron model, and the dp, dd and αd L=2 (D-wave) components in 3He, 4He and 6Li. The toroidal distribution has a maximum-density diameter of ∼1 fm and a halfmaximum density thickness of ∼0.9 fm. Many realistic models of nuclear forces predict these values, which are supported by the observed electromagnetic form factors of the deuteron, and also predicted by classical Skyrme effective Lagrangians, related to QCD in the limit of infinite colors. Due to the rather small size of this structure, it could have a revealing relation to certain aspects of QCD. Experiments to probe this structure and its effects in nuclei are suggested. Pair distribution functions in other T, S channels are also discussed; those in T, S = 1, 1 have anisotropies expected from one-pion exchange interactions. The tensor correlations in T, S = 0, 1 states are found to deplete the number of T, S = 1, 0 pairs in nuclei and cause a reduction in nuclear binding energies via many-body effects. A model based on a nonrelativistic potential supplemented by spin dependent terms of the Breit-Fermi type is described. This model reproduces the known masses of the bb quarkonia within 1MeV and the known masses of the cc quarkonia within 5MeV. Many predictions are made, some of them, e.g. for the fine splittings of the high L states of the bb quarkonia and of the mass spectrum of the bc quarko...

We find solutions of the bosonic sector of gauged N=4, D=4 SU(2)×SU(2) supergravity, which represent dilaton black holes with toroidal or spherical event horizons. The axion is consistently truncated, and the gauge group is broken to U(1)×U(1). The spherical black holes carry two electric and two magnetic abelian charges, whereas the toroidal holes have vanishing magnetic charges. The spacetime...

We present a microscopic study of halo nuclei, starting from the Paris and Bonn potentials and employing a two-frequency shell model approach. It is found that the core-polarization effect is dramatically suppressed in such nu-clei. Consequently the effective interaction for halo nucleons is almost entirely given by the bare G-matrix alone, which presently can be evaluated with a high degree of...

We provide succinct covariant amplitude decompositions of 2-body weak hadronic decays, with which to compare data, including exclusive rates, helicity amplitudes and polarizations. For weak decays, the systematic dependence of these amplitudes on masses and quantum numbers of participating particles are determined within a factor of about two by the CKM angles and the Fermi constant so theoreti...
